See Metallica warmup before their first show at the Wiltern benefit show for friend Flea from RHCP in Los Angeles, May 14th 2008.  See the practice session with Flea playing his favorite song ‘Fight with Fire’ which they played later on in the night together.

William Goodman of Spin.com conducted an interview with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich earlier today (Thursday, May 15) about the group’s much-anticipated new record, which, according to Lars, the outfit will cap next week with “a couple of nips and tucks” for release this September.

Here are some bullet points from Lars‘ comments about the forthcoming CD:

* The yet-to-be titled new record will drop sometime in September.

Video footage of the RHCP bassist jamming out on his favourite Metallica track with the band. Metallica were joined onstage at their LA performance last night by none other than Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. The Chili’s man, who is responsible for putting on the Silverlake Conservatory of Music show that Metallica played last night, got up with the Metallica chaps to have a run through ‘Fight Fire With Fire’ from 1984’s ‘Ride The Lightning’. In the clip’s intro, frontman James Hetfield describes the song as ‘Flea’s favourite Metallica track’. The band can still f*cking rock the house!

Here is some footage from the MissionMetallica.com page. Its the first taste of what we can expect from the site. It’s actually pretty damn cool to see the guys back at work and for the most part having fun. Lars talks to producer Rick Rubin about not using a click machine on a track ‘Hell and Back’ while recording the drums in a pretty funny clip. Though he is not totally happy with it, i think we can see that they are trying to be old school and really capture a raw live feel to the album, a big change from the cut and paste St. Anger. Video footage of METALLICA rehearsing the classic song “Creeping Death” in preparation for the band’s upcoming spring/summer tour dates can be viewed below. The clip, which was apparently shot on May 2, 2008 at the group’s “headquarters” in San Rafael, California, was previously released exclusively to the members of METALLICA’s official fan club.

METALLICA’s recently announced web site — MissionMetallica.com — where the band says it will offer fans a chance to “experience the [group's] new album before it’s done,” is scheduled to go “live” on May 12. See video after the break. (more…)

For a Ramones tribute album, Metallica joined the ranks of U2, Mrs. Beasley Waits, Garbage, Eddie Vedder, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billy Corgan, Offspring, Static-X, Rancid, Motorhead, Green Day and Marilyn Manson. The whole project was helmed by shock-rocker, Rob Zombie. According to Zombie in an interview with Rolling Stone, “The whole thing started with Johnny Ramone. He really wanted people to do the tracks in their own way, not like they’re trying to imitate the Ramones. ” Listen to all 6 covers Metallica recorded after the break.
