“I was at the biggest fucking metal show on earth!” reads the souvenir T-shirts for this year’s one-off edition of Ozzfest, held in Pizza Hit Park, a soccer stadium in suburban Dallas. That statement was definitely an exaggeration size-wise, and more than likely a dubious claim in terms of lineup as well. Still, there were times when it felt like it could transcend those limitations. Chief among them: Metallica’s pyrotechnics-laden performance of “One,” which felt like a big-budget stage production of Apocalypse Now, with its explosive generation-kill buildup. (more…)

Metallica don’t all stay in the same country when they tour.

Each member of the four-piece band stays in a hotel in a different part of Europe during concerts, they have revealed, flying in to the venue shortly before their show is due to begin.

They are currently performing at several festivals over the summer and while guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Rob Trujillo are staying in Portugal, drummer Lars Ulrich is spending time in London, England, with his wife and daughter, and singer James Hetfield is based in the Czech Republic. “This weekend, I saw Metallica perform in front of 42,000 people at Istanbul’s Ali Sami Yen Stadium. I watched from the photo pit while behind me a significant proportion of the city’s youth went completely insane. The distance between band and audience was vast, its space taken up with a cyclone of photographers, security men, first aid crews and injured fans. The band, though, never once looked to the war zone at their feet. Instead, their attentions were focused on making thousands of faces in the distance feel part of the show. ”  source

Metallica have just announced that they will be hosting a couple of bashes in September, via their websites http://www.metallica.com/and http://www.missionmetallica.com/

To celebrate the release of their new album “Death Magnetic” in September (actual date still tbc) the band thought it would be cool to hang with a few of their closest friends in some of their favourite cities.

On September 12th in Berlin, Germany and on September 15th in London, England they will be hosting a little bash to celebrate the blessed event of the upcoming addition to the Metallica family/catalogue.

There will be a live band (that would be them!) and tickets will only be available to MetClub members and Mission: Metallica members.

The band headline the Leeds (August 22nd) and Reading (August 24th) festivals.

The legendary heavy metal group “Metallica” rocked Sofia’s “Vasil Levski” stadium for hours Friday night.

The musicians performed before a crowd of over 50 000 enthusiastic fans. The repertoire included both old hits and new songs.

With this splendid concert the godfathers of heavy metal fulfilled their 10-years old promise to return to Bulgaria, given in Plovdiv during the groups’ fist ever concert in the country.

Two American bands – “The Sword” and “Down” supported “Metallica” at the show and were well accepted by the public. The real party began however, when “Metallica” appeared on stage to award their fans with a splendid light show while their often controversial music, combining the classical heavy metal sound with a more contemporary one was once again a demonstration of musicianship of the highest class. Members of Metallica, Alice in Chains and Anthrax will team up for an all-star tribute to late Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott at this year’s Ozzfest.

Abbott’s brother, Vinnie Paul, will serve as drummer and musical director for the salute that is set to take place at the heavy metal festival on August 9 at the Pizza Hut Park in Dallas, Texas.

Although Vinnie Paul came up with the idea and worked with Ozzfest organizers to make it a reality, Sharon Osbourne said it was pretty much a done-deal from the start. “When we decided on Dallas as the site for this year’s Ozzfest, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to ‘Dimebag’ Darrell since it was his hometown,” she said. “Dimebag was a part of our Ozzfest family and everyone in the metal community misses him dearly.”

At presstime, the artists confirmed to take part in the one-off jam session are Slayer’s Kerry King, Alice in Chains’s Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez, King Diamond, Antrhax’s Scott Ian and Charlie Benante, Metallica‘s Kirk Hammett, Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta, and Hellyeah’s Chade Gray and Bob Zilla.

The headliners for this year’s Ozzfest – a stadium destination rather than a traveling tour – include Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Serj Tankian, Hellyeah, Jonathan Davis, Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica, and In This Moment. (more…)

Jack Black will wear a helmet when he performs at the Reading and Leeds music festivals.

The actor, who is set to appear on stage before legendary rockers Metallica, admits his band Tenacious D are prepared for the crowd to pelt them with bottles.

When asked if he was aware the crowd at Reading Festival are notorious for throwing bottles at acts, Jack replied: “Are you kidding me? Thanks for warning me. Well, I hope the crowd switch to throwing plastic bottles this year. I think I will bring my helmet!”
