A Feast Of Death Listen

Metallica have made most of the album available to stream and listen to online on their official website. With their new attitude they are essentially allowing the world to listen to almost the whole album for free, and before the official release. Maybe it’s an attempt to decrease early downloaders of the leaked version.  Maybe they feel they owe the fans something for 25 years of devotion and support. Either way they are in a pretty generous mood. Not too mention some pretty kick ass tunes with a whole new sound, feel, and attitude. From 1 to 10, they are all pretty solid.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich says he still can’t understand why no other metal band has overtaken the group’s popularity. The group, who have been together for over twenty years, have sold over 100 million albums worldwide since they formed.

Speaking to the Guardian, Ulrich said: “I was thinking the other day about how everyone expects us to continue to release albums that define the genre, to ’save’ metal. And that’s a lot of fucking pressure, really.

“Why hasn’t anyone dethroned us yet? We support all the great new metal bands, take them under our wing, but people still want us to carry the whole genre on our backs.” (more…)

A representative for Metallica’s management company, QPrime, has denied online reports that the band’s new album, “Death Magnetic”, will be released several days early in some parts of Europe.

The web site of the French retailer FNAC had listed a release date of September 9 for “Death Magnetic” — three days earlier than the previously announced September 12 “worldwide” release date. However, the QPrime spokesperson has told Blabbermouth.net that this was a “mistake” and the Fnac web site has since been updated with the correct information.  Several copies of “Death Magnetic” were sold early at a Paris record store on Tuesday (September 2), which led to the entire album being leaked online within hours. source

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has commented on the premature release of the band’s new album, “Death Magnetic”, via a French record store. A shop in Paris reportedly sold a number of copies of the CD this morning well ahead of its official September 12 worldwide release date — with illegal “Death Magnetic” MP3 files making their way online by this afternoon.

During a guest appearance earlier today on “The Woody Show” on the San Francisco, California radio station Live 105 (KITS 105.3 FM), Ulrich stated about the French leak, “Listen, we’re ten days from release. I mean, from here, we’re golden. If this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days. Happy days. Trust me. Ten days out and it hasn’t quote-unquote fallen off the truck yet? Everybody’s happy. It’s 2008 and it’s part of how it is these days, so it’s fine. We’re happy.”

Well the french have finally done something worthwhile. As expected, Death Magnetic has been leaked and thousands have surely downloaded it by now. In this day and age, its probably not unexpected, and while a few will download it and not buy the album, I’m sure most still will. But Metallica has probably already made the best of it by creating Mission Metallica. Whatever they lost in album sale revenues by an early leak on the internet, they made up with preorders by fans signing up for Mission Metallica. Infact, to get the platinum access, you would have to spend more then the album itself which is for sale at Amazon for 8.99 right now. Besides the fact that it’s pretty damn good, people will also gladly fork over anywhere from 10 – 150 bucks for one of the multiple versions that will be available. This is probably the new model for maintaining album sales and revenues in an effort to head off any early leaks. It will probably only work though for a band like Metallica which have such a rabid following that can’t wait to hear even a single riff from the band.

Will we see an early release on tuesday maybe?

If you downloaded the album already, will you still buy it? I would.

So numerous reports are coming in of Death Magnetic being leaked over a week before its official release on September 12th. Reviews vary from the usual “…not the same Metallica” to “They’re back!!”. Have you heard it? What do you think. I can’t admit I’ve heard it, but let’s say I’m sure it is pretty good. ;)

No matter how you first hear the new album, make sure you buy it. This is the cheapest I’ve seen it so far.

We’ve already lived through “The Day That Never Comes” — in the studio and live. So this is the third time it has never come. Something like that. The stitched together, eight-and-a-half-minute, Metallica-sampling Metallica epic gets a high budget, short-film style video today, set in a region of California made up like an American-occupied Islamic state, with soldiers very freaked out by a woman in a burka. Lars writes:

Metallica have seemingly gone back to what they know in terms of more than just the music. Vincent Danger takes a look at the artwork from Death Magnetic as well as the new/old logo

metallica logo death magnetic

All reports on Death Magnetic so far have said that the thrash legends have gone back to their old riff-heavy style of playing but Metallica have changed more than just the music. Look at the design.

The logo they’re using (pictured, above) is the one they started out with. It’s as if they’re actively harking back to what may be perceived as the good old days. Luckily it all fits together fantastically and the music lives up to all the hype. (more…)
