So what will you be doing tonight? We’ll be celebrating the release of “Death Magnetic” by visiting one of Lars’ favorite record stores, GUF in Copenhagen, Denmark. Located near the Townhall Square at Vestergade 17, GUF will be open at 11pm to start selling Death Magnetic one hour before anyone else in continental Europe! We’ll be swinging by around 11:30 to see how things are going and signing your copy of Death Magnetic! We’ll have a full 90 mins to hang out before we have to go to Berlin and get ready for Friday’s next level shenanigans. (more…)

Metallica appear to have dropped the sales embargo on their new album ‘Death Magnetic’.

The band’s first studio album since 2003 is officially released worldwide on Friday (September 12th) – but as Gigwise reported first, a number of UK stores began selling the record yesterday.

The band’s record label, Vertigo, is now understood to have relaxed the embargo so that more shops can sell the album.

“We were advised yesterday by the label that because it’s been leaked quite heavily, they should bring forward its physical release and allow retailers to merchandise it,” a spokesperson for HMV told the BBC.

Metallica are currently second favourite to take the album top spot this Sunday behind Glasvegas, who released their self-titled debut on Monday. (more…)

Wel we can finally talk about it legally. I gor mine at about 12:45 am on Friday. I waited in line with about 45-50 other people just to see what it was like. The mix quality is not that actually and whole package pretty cool. I gotta say that hearing it before kind of took the edge off the whole experience. But thrill of downloading it early, and listening to it that night was pretty cool. I’ll be waiting for the coffin box now that I ordered from MissionMetallica.

So how did you get yours? How many people just got the download last night? Did anybody else wait in line?

Call Death Magnetic Kirk Hammett’s revenge. Famously browbeaten into accepting Lars Ulrich and producer Bob Rock’s dictum that guitar solos were “dated” and thereby verboten for 2003’s St. Anger — a fraught recording chronicled on the 2004 documentary Some Kind of Monster — Metallica’s lead guitarist dominates this 2008 sequel, playing with a euphoric fury not heard in years, if not decades. This aesthetic shift isn’t because Hammett suddenly rules the band: powerless to add solos to St. Anger, he couldn’t reinstate them without the blessing of Ulrich and James Hetfield, the politburo of Metallica. The duo suffered some combination of shame and humility in the wake of the muddled St. Anger and Monster, convincing these two unmovable forces to change direction. They ditched longtime producer Rock — who helmed every album since 1991’s breakthrough blockbuster Metallica — in favor of Rick Rubin, patron saint of all veteran rockers looking to reconnect with their early spark. Rubin may be the go-to producer for wayward superstars, but as the producer of Slayer, he’s also rooted in thrash, so he understands the core of Metallica’s greatness and gently steers them back to basics on Death Magnetic.   (more…)

Metallica’s new album, “Death Magnetic,” has hit the shelves in the United Kingdom earlier than planned.

The famous rock band’s highly-anticipated 12th album was due out on Friday, but Vertigo      (Metallica’s record label) gave the green light to U.K. shops to sell before the planned date after some retailers broke the sale restriction.

One of the retailers which broke the embargo was Zavvi’s Oxford Street store in London. The store started selling Death Magnetic on Wednesday. HMV, which owns over 50 per cent of the music retail market in the UK, also announced the album was available in stores for the price of £9.99 (approximately $20). (more…)

The German-language television network 3SAT recently conducted an interview with METALLICA guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield about the band’s new album, “Death Magnetic”, the “Some Kind of Monster” movie and the use of METALLICA’s music to torture Guantanamo Bay, Cuba prisoners. “Part of me is proud is because they chose METALLICA,” Hetfield said about the reports that the band’s song “Enter Sandman” was used during the interrogation of Mohammed al-Qahtani — known as the 20th hijacker on Sept. 11 — and that listening to the track brought al-Qahtani to tears “because he thought he was hearing the sound of Satan.” James added, “It’s strong; it’s music that’s powerful. It represents something that they don’t like — maybe freedom, aggression… I don’t know… freedom of speech. And then part of me is kind of bummed about it that people worry about us being attached to some political statement because of that. We’ve got nothing to do with this and we’re trying to be as apolitical as possible, ’cause I think politics and music, at least for us, don’t mix. It separates people, [and] we wanna bring people together. So, so be it. I can’t say ‘Stop.’ I can’t say ‘Do it.’ It is just a thing — it’s not good or bad.”

Metallica have admitted to being bad at playing Guitar Hero.

The metal titans’ new album ‘Death Magnetic’ will be the first to be released simultaneously on normal formats and on the hit computer game this Friday (September 12).

The band have revealed they’ve struggled to get to grips with the plastic guitar-based game, however.

“We’re all bad,” bassist Rob Trujillo told the Metro. “It’s a different animal playing that game.” source

Before we go any further, let me just admit something here: Yes, I steal. While I haven’t actually shoplifted since my days as a pre-teen klepto, I do steal things off the internet on a fairly regular basis. And the truth is I don’t feel that bad about it, mainly because I spend enough money on pop culture and entertainment as it is. Is it ultimately wrong? Of course. But whether you download content or just go to YouTube and watch illegally uploaded clips, it’s all the same thing…we all do it, I just prefer to own up to it.

And as someone in the music industry who gets every CD for free anyway, I don’t feel that bad occasionally lifting one off the internet…which is exactly what I did on Tuesday morning, the day Metallica’s Death Magnetic was leaked. (more…)

Buy this very rare 3 disc box set now. There is only one copy left.

It was issued in 1995 by Planet Records and pressed by Trichant in Japan. This 3 disc set includes early Metallica demos, studio outtakes from the “Black” album, as well as Jason Newsted’s death metal side project, IR8! Any true Metallica fan wouldn’t want to miss this set (if you ever get an opportunity to hear it) because it also features songs from the Dave Mustaine and Ron McGovney eras as well! Dave can be heard performing vocals on multiple tracks throughout the set. A real classic headbanging treat for the trues left out there! The overall sound quality is so-so as the source tapes for some of these recordings were probably James’ 4 track from back in the day, but that only adds to the overall mystique and appeal of this legendary band! If you can find this set out there somewhere be sure and add it to your collection. You won’t regret it! Order Now!

No life til leather!

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has hit out at Metallica and Bloc Party, three years after branding the latter “appalling indie rubbish”. Gallagher said he liked everything about Metallica, who release their new album next week, “except their music.” Asked why he didn’t like the group, he replied: “Metal is not my thing. Wanna know why? Black drum sticks … no need.”

Gallagher’s comments about the metal band come less than a month after Metallica’s drummer Lars Ulrich said the Oasis guitarist had helped him quit drugs.

Ulrich told one publication that he had realised that “’if he [Gallagher] can do it, everybody else can do it’.” (more…)

20 years to the day. In just a few days we will be treated to another masterpiece by the ‘tallica boys. Its been a long journey but in many ways they are back to where they started. At the time one of the most anticipated albums, ‘…And Justice for All’ is arguably their best album (bass mix not withstanding). Metallica are still relevant with a guaranteed #1 and probably multi-platinum album with world wide appeal and success. I still remember skipping the first day of school back then to go and buy this album…
