Rock band METALLICA cancelled an interview with a Swedish newspaper after discovering a journalist had illegally downloaded their new album.
The Seek and Destroy hitmakers – who are famously opposed to file-sharing websites – pulled out of a chat with reporters from Sydsvenskan in protest at the publication’s review of their new LP Death Magnetic.
In the article, a journalist admitted downloading a different version of the album – and described it as better than the official cut.
Bosses at the rock band’s record company cancelled a scheduled interview with the newspaper – and slammed the reviewer’s behaviour as “totally unacceptable”.
Per Sundin, president of Universal Music Sweden, says, “The reviewer is referring to a BitTorrent where someone has altered the original songs. The reviewer explains exactly where one should go in order to download the file that totally infringes on a copyright.
“It’s not only an illegal file, but an altered file. The reviewer also writes that this is how the album should have sounded.
“File-sharing of music is illegal. Period. There’s nothing to discuss. That fact – that Sydsvenskan has a writer that has downloaded this music illegally and then makes mention of an illegal site in his review – is totally unacceptable to us.

first of all, this guy not only illegally downloaded the album, but he’s a big enough asshole to start an article about how metallica’s new album should have sounded like this altered version he got from the pirate bay website. I listened to the version for myself, and I don’t know why you would even want to listen to such a hacked-up piece of shit, and then tell the band in an interview about how they should have done the album differently. They have every right to cancel an interview with someone who has no class!
