Well the french have finally done something worthwhile. As expected, Death Magnetic has been leaked and thousands have surely downloaded it by now. In this day and age, its probably not unexpected, and while a few will download it and not buy the album, I’m sure most still will. But Metallica has probably already made the best of it by creating Mission Metallica. Whatever they lost in album sale revenues by an early leak on the internet, they made up with preorders by fans signing up for Mission Metallica. Infact, to get the platinum access, you would have to spend more then the album itself which is for sale at Amazon for 8.99 right now. Besides the fact that it’s pretty damn good, people will also gladly fork over anywhere from 10 – 150 bucks for one of the multiple versions that will be available. This is probably the new model for maintaining album sales and revenues in an effort to head off any early leaks. It will probably only work though for a band like Metallica which have such a rabid following that can’t wait to hear even a single riff from the band.

Will we see an early release on tuesday maybe?

If you downloaded the album already, will you still buy it? I would.

I already downloaded the whole thing and I pre-ordered it AND I’m buying a copy at 12:01 am September 12th just for the experience. I mean seriously, I’ve been waiting 5 long years for that moment to come, waiting outside the record store the night before. It’s gonna be something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.
