Metallica Wants You! To Pay To Watch Commercials
Posted by: admin in Band Info, Merchandise
Metallica’s latest foray into “bleed the fans of every last drop” has just launched and it’s called Mission Metallica. The bands latest ‘mission’ allows fans to watch several commercials over the coming months until the album is released in September. Most bands would upload their videos to MySpace or Youtube from their studio sessions…not corporate giants Metallica. Metallica wants you to pay up to $124.95 to watch them create their latest studio opus.
One would think Metallica would use a bit of tact and give what fans they have left a bone. After the mountain of a shitstorm they caused going after fans for filetrading, it is time Metallica offers an olive branch and let all fans view the studio footage without paying up to $124.95. -thegauntlet.com

Metallica is only charging if you want the videos and shit 4 months before the album is released…and the $124 package includes the album in vinyl and cd plus a lithograph.

that band has every right to charge for their art. I am so pissed at having to hear everybody’s bitch about how metallica stopped napster………. they where stealing the music. “STEALING”, if you don’t want to pay for the site dont. I’m a fan of the band, I won’t spend a dime on the website but you bet your sweet ass the day that new album comes out ill go to the record store, ( you know that place people used to go to buy albums) and throw down a hard earned 20 on the new offering. I have know problem with that……..yes they have alot of money and they earned and are still earning every goddamb penny of it. I don’t need them to throw any kind of a bone my way……..just give me a good album.

I thought “Mission Metallica” was a cool idea UNTIL I heard about this “platinum” BS and charging $25 for a “download”???
No thanks.
I love Metallica but I am tired of the backlash crap I hear all the time over the Napster deal. I thought “Mission Metallica” was going to be Metallica’s way to right that wrong. Instead, it proves all the critics correct.
It’s brillant really. The most unfortunate thing about the whole deal is that it’s the die-hard fans, who have already blown countless millions on these guys, that are the ones who are going to get screwed. $25 for a download is getting screwed. $33 for a download and a CD is almost as bad because now you have something to remind you how bad you got screwed…
Welcome to Metallica Inc.
PS – I will still be going out to the store and buying the CD when it comes out because I will always love Metallica’s music.

Whats so funny is that websites like this post shit stories like this that do not give all of the facts, they just want people to come to the site. Most of the videos posted on missionmetallica.com are actually free all you have to do is register your e-mail address, if you would like more content, contests, full live concert downloads, etc… then you can sign up for the platnium access. But no one is putting a gun to your head. And Metallica is not screwing with their die hard fans who are most likely part of the metclub like myself because we get access to the platnium site for FREE! so fuck your shitty site and its cheap attempt to get people to come here! btw missionmetallica.com is run by Warner Bros. not Metallica.

For a site devoted to Metallica, you seem to hate everything they do. Why waste your time? Last time I checked, no one has to buy a damn thing.

i signed up for the $32.99 platinum deal. i think after doing this i found so far mission metallica is a epic failure. i was expecting something much more especially for the members who paid for access. BIG THUMBS down for me so far.

I don’t get this site…one post earlier was about how Metallica is so smart in curving the illegal music trend with Mission Metallica, and now he thinks they’re greedy bastards? Like others have said- you don’t have to BUY anything to use Mission Metallica. Only if you want the digital download at midnight, actual CD delivered, videos, etc. It’s fucking capitalism…deal with it.

Considering in Australia it costs about $30 for a CD and given that the US dollar is nearly eye for an eye to the AUS dollar, then a digital download, CD and platinum access to behind the scenes content is quite a steal for me (although regional pricing in Australia hasn’t actually been released yet so it may go up in price)!
Referring to the website content as commercials is hardly fair. I for one, as a drummer, am fascinated about the studio process, so $5-$10 for that kind of access is worth every cent to me!
If you are going to dedicate hours of your life to a MetallicA site how about you focus on supporting the band – I’m confused as to why you would dedicate your precious time to something you loathe? Bashin any band is not worth the time, either support them or move on in life – stop living in the 80’s FFS!
If anything I think MetallicA (or at least their corporate lawyers) are a very business-smart band. They know that many people will be lured by a pirated copy of their new work, so it’s better to get people to commit to a sale BEFORE anyone has a chance to leak it early to the net! I’d do the same thing if I were in their shoes – wouldn’t you?
