The Signature Metallica Guitar Solo is Back!

“This time we’re not afraid to refer to our past music in order to create future music”
The New Metallica Album will hopefully be released in september this year if everything goes according to plan. Several previous delays have postponed the album but hopefully it will be delivered as promised this time. Those of us following the rumours surrounding the new album will know about the promise of guitar solo’s on this album. Metallica’s signature guitar solo’s has been virtually non existent on the most recent albums and particularly on St.anger. This is a shame because the guitar solo has always been an essential and easily recognizable part of metallica’s sound. I have always respected Metallica for not being followers in the arena of musical trends, the las ten years though I must say they have disappointed, I wouldn’t say they sold out, but I have been disappointed with the sound of the last few albums and particularly with the lack of guitar solo’s. I believe we migt see a ressurrection of metallica with the new album as they have just been true one of the most difficult periods in the bands history something that has been reflected in their sound as well. Everything seems to be back on track now and recent interviews with James and Kirk points in the same direction. Kirk has this to say about the new album “The next album will be a lot more riff based then St. Anger. It will be more dynamic and have a lot of guitar solos. One of the songs have so many changes that it feels like a long solo”.
I know a lot of old school Metallica fans and guitarists out there will indeed appreciate the return of the metallica guitar solo. Being a guitarist myself, I remember spending hours and hours rewinding Metallica tapes and trying to work out the guitar solos listening to the same little section over and over until i finally got it right, and then move on to the next little section. The guitar solo is the spice of any Metallica song, they add a whole new dimension to the listening experience. To take away the guitar solo from Metallica is like taking the chili away from your hot sauce. It’s just not that hot anymore. However, from what I’ve heard so far of new songs from the album it seems Metallica is indeed going back to their roots. I’m excited!
