One of the defining albums of thrash metal, Master of Puppets is arguably Metallica’s best album (as well as their last with bassist Cliff Burton). Focusing on the concept of power and abuses thereof, this is a collection of complex, intelligent music, played at about 100 miles an hour. Not that these are short songs; this eight-song album clocks in at over an hour, which makes it all the more impressive that not one moment on this recording is boring. In tackling various approaches to their subject, Metallica is insightful lyrically as well as musically: “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” is from the point of view of an institutionalized inmate and “Disposable Heroes” is the perspective of a soldier. Customer Review:
5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, July 30, 2000
When I put my money down for this CD, I was a bit uneasy about it because I wasn’t sure how much better it would be than the original “Master of Puppets” CD, which I already own. The first thing I did was to listen to “Disposable Heroes” on the original album, and then I listened to the same song on the gold disc, and I must admit I was amazed at the superior quality. As I listened to the song I was impressed by how clear on crisp the song sounded and how glad I was I decided to get the CD. For those of you who love the album and want to hear it in the outstanding quality it was meant to be heard in, add this one to your shopping cart immediately, you will not regret it. If you are the type of person who does not appreciate good sound you may not be able to tell the difference, but a finely tuned Metallica ear will easily be able to tell this CD is worth the buck.
